Pivotal Earnings on Deck for ROKU
ROKU has lost much of its shine since its pandemic prime. Is company misunderstood or on it's way lower?
Let's break it down...
Last quarter ROKU shares plummeted after the company acknowledged stiff competition in the digital ad space, losing out to names like Netflix and Amazon. And investors speculated that Walmart's rumored interest in acquiring Vizio could further erode its dominance in the retail channel.
Were these fears of competition warranted -- and did Walmart end up acquiring Vizio?
Walmart DID acquire Vizio at the end of February -- or at least began the process.
In a press release, Walmart noted, "The acquisition of Vizio and its SmartCast Operating System (OS) would enable Walmart to connect with and serve its customers in new ways including innovative television and in-home entertainment and media experiences. It would also create new opportunities to help advertisers connect with customers, empowering brands with differentiated and compelling opportunities to engage at scale and to realize greater impact from their advertising spend with Walmart.”
This places Walmart directly in competition with ROKU, not great news for the connected TV platform.
In addition, LikeFolio happiness levels suggest competition is not only mounting, but overtaking its prior lead.
