Gaming: Where do we go from here?
The cold weather is starting to break across the country, and the gaming trends are finally showing some signs of weakness.
Relative to the lockdown-inspired highs seen last year, we're seeing a slowdown in gaming-related mentions for all 3 major console brands. However, we've yet to see a YoY decline in PC Gaming mentions.
What's more impressive is the growth in PC Gaming relative to the 2019 levels- +31% vs. 2 years ago:
PC Gaming has been so dominant in recent months that we've seen it boost several companies to new heights: Logitech (LOGI), Nvidia (NVDA), and Turtle Beach (HEAR) to name a few.
Razer (OTC:RAZFF) is another name to keep an eye on going forward. This company is a multinational distributor of gaming peripherals and other equipment, and according to our data, it just had its best year ever in 2020.
The number of English-speaking consumers talking about purchasing Razer brand keyboards, mice, and other accessories has remained elevated for the past 9-months, currently up +22% YoY on the 90-day moving average.
It's no surprise that the Razer posted record revenues for the year, with the CEO referencing growth in the "gamer demographic" as a major tailwind for the company. Also worth noting: Razer is establishing itself in the e-payments space as well.It has an e-wallet service called 'Razer Pay' in Malaysia and recently launched a virtual prepaid debit card service in Singapore, both catering to their young, tech-savy customer base. Service based revenue grew +75% YoY in the second half of 2020.
